Spring brings new life, hope, and a chance to renew our faith through penance and the season of Lent. Here are some ways to thoughtfully celebrate the season. 💜🌿🌸🐣

St. Joseph

March 19th

Solemnity of St. Joseph.

March - Month of St. Joseph

Season of Lent: Read Preparing for Lent.

March 17 – St. Patrick

  • Theme: Evangelization & Courage.

  • Read: St. Patrick’s Confession.

  • Pray: St. Patrick’s Breastplate, pray for missionaries and those sharing the faith.

  • Music: “Be Thou My Vision”, Irish hymns.

  • Cook: Stew, colcannon, Irish soda bread, corned beef, or green-themed snacks

  • Craft: Trinity shamrock art (he used the shamrock to explain the Trinity).

  • Decorate: Green, Celtic crosses.

March 19 – Solemnity of St. Joseph

  • Theme: Humility, Fatherhood, & Obedience.

  • Pray: Litany of St. Joseph, consecration to St. Joseph, pray especially for fathers and workers, ask St. Joseph for help with work, finances, or family concerns.

  • Music: “Hail, Holy Joseph”, “Joseph, Son of David”.

  • Cook: St. Joseph bread, Italian pastries or meal.

  • Decorate: White, brown, lilies, tools

  • Activity: Do hidden acts of service, fix something broken, build something together, write thank-you notes to fathers or mentors.

  • Craft: Make a “St. Joseph’s workshop” craft with small wooden crosses or tools.

March 25 – Solemnity of the Annunciation

  • Theme: Obedience & Saying “Yes” to God.

  • Pray: Pray the Angelus, Joyful Mysteries, pray for openness to God’s will.

  • Activity: Write your own “fiat” prayer, pray for unborn life and mothers, and begin or renew devotion to Our Lady.

  • Read: Luke 1:26–38.

  • Music: “Gabriel’s Message”, “Let It Be Done Unto Me”.

  • Decorate: White lilies, blue cloth.

  • Craft: Paper lilies or fiat banners (“Let it be done”), stained-glass style “Hail Mary” art.

  • Theme: Humility & Penance.

  • Pray: Offer a small hidden sacrifice today.

  • Activity: “Secret Acts of Kindness” challenge.

  • Food: Simple meatless meal (he lived very penitentially).

April 4 – Isidore of Seville

  • Theme: Love of Learning.

  • Pray: For students, teachers, and wise use of technology.

  • Activity: Family trivia night or research a topic together.

  • Fun Idea: Bless your laptops/phones and commit to holy media use.

  • Food: Spanish-inspired tapas.

April 5 – Vincent Ferrer

  • Theme: Preaching Truth

  • Pray: For courage to share the Gospel.

  • Activity: Practice explaining your faith in 2 minutes.

  • Craft: Black & white Dominican colors art project.

  • Food: Simple bread & soup (missionary simplicity).

April 11 – Stanislaus of Szczepanow

  • Theme: Moral Courage.

  • Pray: For leaders to act with integrity.

  • Activity: Discuss standing up for what’s right.

  • Food: Polish pierogi or kielbasa.

April 21 – Anselm of Canterbury

  • Theme: “Faith Seeking Understanding”.

  • Pray: For a deeper understanding of Church teaching.

  • Activity: Ask a big theological question and explore it together.

  • Food: English tea & scones.

April 23 – St. George

  • Theme: Slaying Dragons (Overcoming Sin).

  • Activity: Talk about courage and virtue, dragon crafts (paper plate dragon, origami, coloring pages), dress-up knight day, discuss spiritual warfare in daily life, journal about personal “dragons” and ripe them up, host a friendly “knight’s challenge” obstacle course.

    Craft: Make a family crest with Christian symbols or a shield with a red cross (symbol of St. George).

  • Read: Ephesians 6:10–17.

  • Cook: English roast beef or shepherd’s pie, Yorkshire pudding, tea and scones, shortbread or Victoria sponge cake, dragon cupcakes.

  • Decorate: Red and white.

April 25 – Mark the Evangelist

  • Theme: Proclaiming the Gospel.

  • Symbol: Lion.

  • Pray: Read one chapter of the Gospel of Mark aloud.

  • Activity: Create lion crafts.

  • Food: Mediterranean meal (early Christian world flavors).

April 29 – St. Catherine of Siena

  • Theme: Holy Boldness.

  • Pray: Prayer for the Church and the Pope, Litany of St. Catherine.

  • Activity: Eucharistic adoration, “Set the World on Fire” art project — decorate flames with virtues or ways to love God boldly, write a letter to the Pope, host a small discussion on holy courage and defending truth with charity, write letters of encouragement to a priest or bishop.

  • Cook: Italian meal, almond cookies.

Pray: Daily Rosary, May Crowning, Litany of Loreto.

Music: “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman”, “Immaculate Mary”, “Ave Maria”.

Decorate: Blue and white, flowers, candles, and Marian statues.

Activity: Bring flowers to Mary, crown a Marian statue

May 1 – St. Joseph the Worker

  • Theme: Work & Dignity of Labor.

  • Pray: Prayer for work and workers.

  • Activity: Teach the dignity of labor, gardening together, make a small “St. Joseph’s workshop” craft or paper tools.

  • Cook: Simple meal of bread, cheese, or pasta (honoring humble work).

May 3 – Sts. Philip & James

  • Theme: Faithfulness & Discipleship.

  • Read: John 14.

  • Pray: For perseverance in faith and for guidance in following Christ.

  • Activity: Apostles’ storytelling — read or act out stories from the Gospel.

  • Craft: Make paper boats or sandals (symbolic of traveling disciples).

  • Cook: Mediterranean-style snacks (olives, bread, grapes).

May 13 – Our Lady of Fatima

  • Theme: Prayer & Peace.

  • Pray: Rosary for world peace.

  • Music: Fatima hymns.

  • Activity: Learn about the Fatima children, have a candle procession, make paper rosaries or crown Mary with flowers.

  • Craft: “Fatima apparition” art with clouds, sun, and a Mary figure.

  • Cook: Portuguese pastries (like pastéis de nata) or simple cookies.

May 31 – Visitation

  • Theme: Service & Joyful Charity.

  • Read: Luke 1:39–56 (Magnificat).

  • Pray: Magnificat, for hospitality and care of neighbors.

  • Activity: Acts of service, visit someone in need.

  • Craft: Paper flowers, crown Mary with floral wreaths, make a “flower bouquet” craft to give to someone in need.

  • Cook: Light, spring-inspired meal — salads, fresh fruit, or floral cupcakes.
